1.) What type of foundation do I need for my cabin?
It all depends on the size and use of the cabin. For smaller cabins used as a residential or vacation home I would consider a treated pole foundation, once your cabin is complete there are several options available as far as covering the exposed poles (See example below). We recommend using a concrete block foundation with larger cabins used for residential and vacation homes, for structural integrity and safety purposes. Regardless of size you are going to want the cabin lifted up off the ground providing a crawl space to run duct work for heating and air, pipes, etc. Cabins used for basic storage would be fine on gravel or solid concrete blocks depending on how level the location is.
This cabin is on a treated pole foundation
2.) Is electric available in my area?
Depends, our company can handle everything form the wiring to the fixtures and switches, but for customers outside the Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana area it is in there best interest to hire a local electrician. This is because of each states specific electric codes and the requirement of an inspection. For the areas where we can not provide electric it is the customers responsibility to have their electrician meet with our crew during construction to install the wiring.
3.) Do you provide the plumbing?
No, it is the customers responsibility.
4.) What is included in the bathroom option?
We will provide the toilet, sink, vanity, mirror, tub and/or shower along with plumbing cut out's. We can add custom options upon request (At an additional cost).
5.) Can I have a laundry room?
Yes, we can make a laundry/utility room with hook up's for a washer, dryer, hot water heater, etc.
6.) Does pricing include appliances?
No, we do not provide appliances, but can install hook ups for your stove and refrigerator. As far as floor plans are concerned they are only examples of how your furniture and appliances could be laid out.
7.) Does pricing include furniture?
No, but matching hand carved furniture is available at an additional cost.
8.) Can I use your Rent to Own option?
No, we do not offer any type of financing on our log cabins. We do have lofted cabins available for Rent to Own, they are built with T-1-11 and primarily used for storage, we can not add insulation, interior walls, etc.
9.) Do you build fireplaces?
No, we do not build fireplaces - We recommend a portable fire place or a wood burning stove. We can install a stainless steel flue for wood burning stoves.
10.) How does payment work?
25% deposit is required when order is placed by cash, check, cashiers check or money order. At this time further payment arrangements will be made and signed off by both USA Portable and purchaser.
11.) How tall are the logs?
5"
12.) How tall are the side walls?
A standard cabin has approximately 7'5" side walls with a 10' apex height
13.) What about anchoring?
Anchors come standard with built on site cabins, but are not standard with kits or portable cabins.
14.) What is the upkeep?
You'll want to re-apply sealer and/or stain every 3-5 years or sooner depending on the weather conditions in your area.
15.) Do I need to do anything to the interior?
Yes, you'll want to at least apply a clear coat of polyurethane to the entire interior within at least 3 months of receiving your cabin. Failure to do this will result in darkening of the wood. We offer this service as an option on our portable and built on site cabins.
